My Mom
I created this tribute memorial fund page which benefits the St. Jude Children's Research hospital in honor of my Mom, Dorothy who died peacefully in her sleep 14 years ago on July 9, 1994. She was a devoted wife, Mother and Grandmother. Her family was her life of which she gave her unconditional love. Her grandchildren at that time, both Bobby and Alissa were the light of her life. Spending time with them was one of her greatest joys. I have many fond memories of her cooking in the kitchen with both Bobby and Alissa helping her stirring and preparing meals. She was sweet, caring, giving and the most loving person I have ever known. If you were ever in need, she was always there to help and gave everything she had literally emptying her wallet and coin purse. She gave without ever wanting anything in return. She was my Mother, my mentor and my best friend. She, by her example made me the person I am today and inspired my writing and creativity. Because of Mom I reached my goals and am living my dream of being a writer, something I probably never would have accomplished had it not been for her. She was and is my heart. Although she had years of sometimes debilitating health problems she would always have a smile on her face and a joke to put a smile on our face. She had a fantastic sense of humor which made everyone she came in contact with feel comfortable and at ease. She loved music and loved to sing. Although not a professional singer she had a beautiful voice. She could not wash dishes or do housework without singing. I learned so many songs from the great american songbook just by listening to her sing. She so much enjoyed shopping and we would spend many a Saturday doing just that. A leisurely day of shopping, lunching and just spending time together. Her favorite getaway was a trek to Reno where she would spend hours at a roulette or blackjack table. She loved games of all types. Scrabble was her passion and even when her eyesight was deteriorating she would be playing with a magnifying glass and would still always win. We miss her terribly yet celebrate her life with happy memories held close in our hearts.
She loved her hometown of San Francisco so here's a special tribute song to SF sung by vocalist Sony Holland and written by Jerry Holland - On A San Francisco High. http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/5/4/1047701/Sony%20Holland%20-%20On%20A%20San%20Francisco%20High.mp3
Devotion to St. Jude
She had a loyal devotion to St. Jude. She would pray to him on a regular basis and completely believed in his power of helping hopeless cases. Her memorial mass was held at the St. Jude Shrine at St. Dominics church in San Francisco which is what she would have wanted. Because of her devotion to St. Jude and her love of children I decided to create this fund page which is something I know in my heart is something in which she would be so proud.
A Gift From God
She was born Dorothea which in Greek means "A gift from God" which she truly was and through this fund can give back a special gift to benefit the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital - a fund I know was close to her heart and one which benefits those most in need. I love you Mom!
