Fred Anthony Payne was born on July 17, 1971. Fred grew up in Southern Maryland and graduated from Chopticon High School in St. Mary's County. After graduation, Fred joined the U.S. Army.

In 1991, Fred was deployed to Kuwait for Operation Desert Shield. Fred served with the VII Corp which was instrumental in the liberation of Kuwait.

After leaving the Army, Fred eventually became a family man. He worked at Verizon and had 3 sons with his wife Patty.

On November 22, 2007, Fred was offically diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Fred tried chemotheropy, but his body did not react well to it. He passed away on February 16, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Maryland.

When Fred was diagnosed with cancer, he knew that Pancreatic cancer was one that did not have a good survival rate. He was told that he had 3 to 8 months to live. When someone asked Fred if he ever felt like why me, his response was always "Why not me."

I am asking that people make donations in memory of Fred. Fred was a wonderful father who was often called "Mr.Mom" and helping children is the best way to honor him.

There is also a fundraising event going on soon on Fred's behalf. For information go to http://www.donateforfred.com
The site should be up by June 1,2008 and the event should start soon after. Thank you.

UPDATE: To all who are donating. On Jan 30, 2009 I reached my fundraising goal weight of 185 pounds. Thank you for you support during this fundraiser and helping the children of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All donations are appreciated on behalf of Fred. Thank you again and God Bless!

To all who helped out with this fundraiser on Fred's behalf. Thank you. I hit the goal weight in early February and had a tremendous amount of support along the way. I believe that Fred would be very pleased with the amount of money we all were able to raise for St. Jude.
I am hoping we can finialze these totals in the near future so we can see how much we actually did raise for St. Jude.
Thank you again for your support.
